What are you celebrating today?

1. weirdvis5 March 2011, 9:46 GMT +01:00

Always a popular thread at the other place.

I'll kick this one off.

It was my birthday the other day. I was expecting a bottle of my favourite perfume (I've been dropping hints I was running low) and woke up to a Land Rover Freelander on the drive. I've always wanted a 4x4 and now I've finally got one courtesy of my Mum and my Significant Other Half.

Okay, so it's not a new one and it's not an all singing, all dancing model, but that doesn't bother me. It's a freaking Freelander, dudes!

Mine's a white soft top like the one in the foreground.

Downside - I'll have to fund my own bottle of smellies. Oh hold on - there's Mother's Day coming up...

Well done witht the downloads, Christine! I would love to visit Europe and all the places I hear about. It sounds like you had a great day.

@170: pity it's so far away (both ways)

172. canoncan15 July 2011, 16:00 GMT +02:00

my partner and i have decided to give hang gliding a go, we have spoke about it for ages, we are booked in for 20th August in Northumbria, we have to travel about 100miles to get there as where we live there are no schools for hang gliders, i cant wait (scream). lol, so excited!

173. Ayla8716 July 2011, 9:41 GMT +02:00

Sounds really exciting, Karen. Do you plan to glue your camera on your helmet to get some aerial photos?

174. xymonau16 July 2011, 11:21 GMT +02:00

That would be a scream of fear for me, Karen! You're a brave woman. I salute you! I hope you have a wow of a time, too.

175. canoncan17 July 2011, 16:45 GMT +02:00

I repeat part of what I said on the 'last to post' link. "Strange lass". Best of luck though :0)

177. crisderaud17 July 2011, 23:22 GMT +02:00

Hi Karen! The GoPro CHD96-001 HD Helmet Hero 960 is all the rage for the kind of thing you are doing.

Sounds like a lot of fun to me!!

178. canoncan18 July 2011, 17:18 GMT +02:00

lol, phil, thankyou

cris, those are superb looking helmet cams, thankyou for the link.

bought, downloaded and installed Mac OS X Lion today
and I'm happy to tell you that all is working well
downloading the 3,7 GB took threeandahalfhours
installing took 23 minutes LOL

can you imagine that this is the first time in my life that I have changed OS without being a new computer?

happyhappyhappy :-)

180. Ayla8721 July 2011, 6:16 GMT +02:00

Well done, Christine. Changing an OS is a brave effort and it is good to hear that you didn't have trouble with it. I change my Windows-version mostly only when I buy a new computer. But indeed, as the computers are faster and faster the installation time is less to worry about.

I'm glad it all went well, Christine. I'm so technologically slow that I wouldn't know where to begin.

182. Groningen21 July 2011, 22:35 GMT +02:00

I love the new Mail function in OS X Lion

183. gesinek22 July 2011, 10:49 GMT +02:00

Good job Christine, We use Linux and I get the feeling things are more easy with this.

184. lennie22 July 2011, 14:14 GMT +02:00

From a technical user perspective I would say:

- Linux is easiest to upgrade as it also upgrades all applications at the same time, everything is handled by one system

- Mac OS X changes should not effect the applications to much so it should be easy

- Windows is hardest to upgrade, there usually is a lot of time between versions and thus applications might not work and so on.

185. Groningen22 July 2011, 16:58 GMT +02:00

thank you gesinek :D

@lennie> you are right but there is no Linux version for the Adobe Creative Suite and I do not like Gimp :-(
transition went smooth because I had installed the latest updates for Snow Leopard before buying Lion
I can now say that Adobe is running better on Lion than on Snow Leopard

celebration 1: today I had the fastest start ever on a computer ( home or work LOL)
celebration 2: someone really liked my gallery here on rgb and downloaded 27 images making my total downloads 918!

186. lennie23 July 2011, 0:39 GMT +02:00

Actually, I found some instructions online and didn't expect them to work. I downloaded an illegal version of Photoshop CS5 and installed it on my Linux machine, it does work with the WINE compatibility layer.

It isn't installed because I don't have a use for it. as I'm not a graphics person. :-) Seems I still have the instructions though.

Here is a screenshot of someone using it:

187. gesinek23 July 2011, 10:58 GMT +02:00

By times I get used to the GIMP but I don't use a lot of it's functions except, cropping or other simple operations.

I'm missing more a tool that works like Flash for Linux, Cause I have a few old websites to care about which contains old animations and such things.

188. lennie23 July 2011, 23:51 GMT +02:00

I'm someone who believes more in what modern browsers have to offer, not plugins.

And now that we have this HTML5 thing I believe people should try to use it.

This tool is very new and isn't for Linux but I think it is very similair to what Adobe made for Flash:

Maybe that is something you might want to try ?

189. gesinek24 July 2011, 16:34 GMT +02:00

Thank you for the link. I think I'll try it on our multi media station which is a Mac :-)

190. micromoth27 August 2011, 20:03 GMT +02:00

After several years of using Photoshop Elements, I'm celebrating today finally moving up to CS5. Oh wow, what a difference! I've already spent far too long playing with it... :-)

191. xymonau28 August 2011, 2:09 GMT +02:00

I am green with envy! Congratulations, Kevin! We now expect even better uploads from you.

192. micromoth28 August 2011, 6:29 GMT +02:00

Thanks Dez! I shall do my best.

193. Stephen28 August 2011, 17:19 GMT +02:00

Might I suggest to Lennie that his comment re CS5 perhaps warrants a rather immediate 'clarification' ie bye bye
