Camera for Christmas!

1. happyture13 December 2011, 7:37 GMT +01:00

Well its that time of year again, the photography shops are full to the britches with sparkly new cameras with more pixels and wonder gadgetry than you can wave a stick at, I am looking for a new camera but dont want to have a wheelbarrow to carry it around, I have been looking closely at the Panasonic G3 amazed at the size and control this camera seems to have, yet i am concerned that the iso settings only goes down to 160iso,,,,that i feel is rather high as my little fuji and Big Nikon go down much lower around 80iso with the fuji and 100iso with the Nikon,,,I can hear you all saying OMG he's rambling again, BUT i would love to hear your opinions on the many cameras that are on the market at the moment.

Well thanks for putting me off me rabbit sandwich,,,excuse me while i just go worm myself, home and away no! Im a celebrity let me out of here... acidophilus yoghurt Ill get some now ,,,back in a min :

723. xymonau9 January 2013, 21:57 GMT +01:00

Oh, I've heard that celebrity show is awful - all "B" grade whingers. I suspect dental extraction or worming would be a preferable activity.

I don't know if it is really true, but they say the acidophilus puts good bacteria back into your bowel, and prevents that awful complication from them that can leave you with diarrhoea for months. Doctors recommend it. I, of course, can't eat dairy foods, so I wouldn't know!

How many members do you have on your Facebook site now, Mikey?

724. happyture9 January 2013, 23:19 GMT +01:00

I got some today, havent eaten any yet but i will try it tomorrow, looks ok anyway,,
There's 130 members at the moment they come and go as they do, but thankfully we have got great members, to be honest as i have been ill i aint been there much but i have a friend help run it now :O)

725. xymonau10 January 2013, 2:33 GMT +01:00

It is certainly successful - and there are a lot of great photos there. Have you been stuck in bed with this sickness?

726. happyture10 January 2013, 10:20 GMT +01:00

Yeah "Pictures Fantastic" seems to be going OK, see what i done there Dezzie, Naaaaaaaa,, Dont go to bed Gurl ya die in bed, Na i carry on as normal, Im a man so i just moan about it more ha ha :O)

727. xymonau10 January 2013, 13:32 GMT +01:00

Moaning is a perfectly acceptable thing to do if you're ill. The squaeky wheel gets the oil.

Are you inviting me to look at Pictures Fantastic? I will, but not tonight. It has bee a tiring week and I'm a bit out of sorts tonight. I will go to bed shortly.

728. happyture13 January 2013, 12:52 GMT +01:00

Yor very welcome to have a look at PICTURES FANTASTIC Dezzie a facebook site full of the most friendliest people you could ever want to meet :O)

729. xymonau13 January 2013, 13:05 GMT +01:00

They do seem like nice people, and some of the photos are fabulous. Are any of them likely to put photos up here?

730. happyture14 January 2013, 9:39 GMT +01:00

Well thank you so much, yes they are some fabulous images on Pictures Fantastic, the thing is Dezzie the page is not built to be like RGBStock its totally different, as you know we all see things in a different light, one man's/women's beautiful is some else's horrible, well we at Pictures Fantastic try to see the image for what it is, if its Aunty Gladys's cat thats what it is, we dont look for too much noise or a packet of brand cornflakes in the background everybody can share their images regardless of quality and content, within reason of course, no porn or profanities, So i dont really know if they would like to exhibit here or not as its a totally different kettle of fish, personally Dezzie i think people are more interested in getting paid for their photo's now ,as a couple from pictures fantastic are selling theirs which of course is good, but not so good for those running free sites, All in all Dezzie its just for fun, I may put a link just to see if any mention it :O)

731. xymonau14 January 2013, 9:46 GMT +01:00

Yes, it's always nice to have somewhere to display your images. I agree that people would prefer to sell - I certainly would, but I'm not good enough. So I can still have my images used in ways that make me feel proud if I give them away, whereas they might never be paid for elsewhere. There is too much excellent competition around.

I love your most recent pics on Facebook.

732. happyture14 January 2013, 9:54 GMT +01:00

See pulling yourself down again Dezzie, if you was nearer id give you a shaking, your work is very good as good as many professionals and i think,, Nay, I know you would sell images, yes some photographers are really starting to shine on Pictures fantastic as can be seen by their wonderful images, I try to encourage them and give them ideas as much as possible, but once they get the idea their off to go bless them :O)

733. xymonau14 January 2013, 10:00 GMT +01:00

Oh, Mikey - I'm only being realistic. Most of my stuff is about software. When I look at proper stock sites the quality difference is obvious. True, there are some that are about my standard, but they might not sell many, either. I won't argue. I have an image in my mind of the type of work I would like to do, and it would take better software than I currently have. I'm going to buy Photoshop one day, but I just have other priorities right now. I do like some of my images. But the funny thing is that some of the most popular amaze me. I hate them. And others that I really am proud of hardly get any downloads. There's no accounting for taste, is there?

734. happyture14 January 2013, 10:17 GMT +01:00

See Dezzie this is what im saying you yourself think ,,OH i dont like this image and it gets downloaded the most,,

735. xymonau15 January 2013, 6:45 GMT +01:00

What's your favourite image of your own that hasn't had as many downloads as you expected? And what's the one you like least or are surprised that did so well?

736. happyture15 January 2013, 9:53 GMT +01:00

I really like this one http://www.rgbstock.com/photo/mBKMYRG/Birds+in+the+mist.
yet this one has more downloads http://www.rgbstock.com/photo/mFPsC1K/Winner

737. xymonau16 January 2013, 8:05 GMT +01:00

The medal is great stock, but the ducks are just art. Excellent.

I have some that astonish me. I'm almost afraid to say what I really think in case it stops people downloading.

For example, this abomination:
http://www.rgbstock.com/photo/2dyX1qj/Christmas+Tree+Blue
On here 117 downloads is high. I think it's rubbish. I can't remember why I even uploaded it. Ugly.

And this:
http://www.rgbstock.com/photo/2dyVQYr/Abstract+Christmas+Tree
It has fewer downloads, but it's pretty (I think) and original (lots of copies since), but just not as popular.

http://www.rgbstock.com/photo/2dyVjRb/Romance
This was one of my most popular on the other site, but here it's just mediocre. Perhaps people don't bother scrolling far enough to see it. I notice a lot of my images are on the last pages because I was one of the first uploaders. It's the same for all the original galleries, although for some reason the occasional image pops up on the first pages, and usually the worst images.

But I do think, given time, this site will move forward and the downloads will improve. Gosh, I remember the little golden xmas tree had 10,000 downloads and 40 comments within a week at the other site! LOL Those were the days. I'd still prefer to be at RGB, though.

738. happyture16 January 2013, 8:20 GMT +01:00

Yeah they are all easy on the eye and contain space for down loaders to use, colours are also good , I think your right about people not scrolling far enough, everything is rush rush busy busy now, no time to waste,, sad aint it, Yeah i left 1 or two images there and those alone have at least 4 times the downloads all my images have together here, but and its a BIG BUT, that site has gone from being one of the best to probably the worst free site, a crying shame i believe :O(

739. xymonau16 January 2013, 9:53 GMT +01:00

Well, it is worse for the uploaders, as the downloaders can still get images. I wonder what the future will bring?

740. happyture17 January 2013, 6:55 GMT +01:00

Well,,I praying for a lucky break, just one and i shall grab it so hard by the horns i'll never let go, But as for RGBstock then the future is bright, steady growth until eventually it will become the top free site as it deserves :O)

741. xymonau21 January 2013, 8:02 GMT +01:00

It will take time. As long as the other has so many images, people will go there first. I think we'll sneak up on 'em.

742. happyture21 January 2013, 18:49 GMT +01:00

Yeah sneak up on um, then poke um with ya pointy stick an say outta ere this is our spot :)

743. xymonau21 January 2013, 23:24 GMT +01:00

Nah. Waste of a good pointy stick. I saves 'em for you...

744. happyture22 January 2013, 11:17 GMT +01:00

745. xymonau22 January 2013, 23:43 GMT +01:00
