lots of light. I'm always very light sensitive during and shortly after migraine attacks.

The English is a bit incomprehensible in places, but I get the drift. LOL Did you ever try large doses of magnesium? I find that if I take 1500mg per day - in one dose - that it tends to keep the aura thing away for long periods of time. I have to remember, and it's best if I take it at the same time, but if I forget, then a couple of days later I invariably have the flashing lights. I take Vitamin D - I was taking 3,000mg per day as I had low blood levels, but now I take 1,000 most days, and don't worry if I forget. I take vegetarian glucosamine, and that certainly helps my chronic pain. I know I'm alive if I forget it. It takes a few days to start working. My latest thing is turmeric. You have to get the kind that also has black pepper or it won't be absorbed, but they have done medical research on its effectiveness for depression and inflammation, and it works as well as Prozac and anti-inflammatories - the names escape me. It's in the ginger family and that also is very potent with inflammation.

What's the drug that you can take immediately to offset the headache? And is it something you could take all the time?

as long as we all

Yes, the English is not the best (it often sounds funny to me), but you get an idea what the original page

says

You are a fast reader if you have learned those 10 pages by rote already. I thought I'd keep you busy (and soon falling to sleep) for a while LOL

I have tried with larger doses of magnesium, but if I take too much it gives me the runs. I can endure only half of the advised daily intake. I take 1,000 of vitamin C daily, but that doesn't help specifically with migraine.

When an headache attack starts I immediately inject myself a triptane s.c. which is called Imigran (a trade name for Sumatriptan). It only helps (if it helps at all) for up to 6 or 7 hours. You are officially allowed to use no more than two injections a day, so I have a problem that I won't come around with it over my three day long attacks. Currently I'm enduring most of the pain untreated during longer attacks, and no help at all has been found against my heavy vomiting. It is just unstopable. I was astonished to learn that all the medics are ineffective against it, because my urge to vomit (caused by the migraine) is so very strong (and long lasting).

I don't have an idea what could help you Michael. But a time ago we talked about a specialist hospital nearby Kiel. ( For all not germans: It is the capital of our neighbour state and the hospital is sometimes mentioned in regional TV)(http:www.schmerzklinik.de). Thought you were aiming to contact them. Seems as they are the last hope for migraine patients who are as tortured as you are.

I remember you saying it fell through or something?? I know there are some top neurologists in Germany, but have you researched others in other countries? Here is an article from 2011. Has your doctor looked at something like this for you? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2078789/20-years-migraines-cured-pacemaker-tummy.html

sate

By the way, I read the first page and a bit of the second, then realised there were 10 pages, so I skipped to the end. LOL

11675. Ayla8726 November 2015, 6:42 GMT +01:00

Gesine, I know that pain hospital in Kiel well. I have never personally been there, but my above migraine blog is part of their headbook website (a facebook for the head). So in a way I am - as part of their online community - a kind of online patient. The professor also shares his profound knowledge in online chats. very informative for me. But I'm still hard to cure.

Dez, yes, I know of this pacemaker. It is also implanted in this hospital here in Kiel. Currently they have a break with this technology because the pacemaker is actually going through another optimization process. This thingy works best to help people with daily chronical pain. I luckily don't fall into that category.

To skip to the end was a

safe

trick to save you lots of time. The ups and downs over the years are a long odyssey. Many migraine patients read those reports and take part in discussing their development. The main purpose is that you can compare yourself with other similar cases and learn from related experiences. When you have such a chronical disease it also gives some ease to know that you are not alone with it.

BTW, my alternative practitioner is also very fond of turmeric. Absorption may be a problem, though. I'm not sure whether greater masses of black pepper every day wouldn't begin to be a hazzle for the stomach.

11676. xymonau26 November 2015, 9:07 GMT +01:00

You don't need very much pepper, Michael. I was concerned about that, too, as I have a chronically inflamed stomach and terrible gastric reflux, plus I had ulcers years ago. Each pill has it all combined. The curcurmin tablets I take are Bioglan brand. It has the equivalent of 102.5mg of black pepper and 600mg of curcumin, and I can honestly say it has never affected my stomach. I was taking the pure Turmeric with pepper - an Australian brand I bought online - and I originally got it because I've been suffering depression recently. I didn't expect any difference, but they did make a difference, and I felt it when I stopped taking them for a week. So you would have to experiment with your condition to see which worked better. Black pepper is a substance that enhances the uptake of a lot of medications. Here is a link to a good article about the combinations:

http://www.turmericforhealth.com/turmeric-benefits/health-benefits-of-black-pepper-and-turmeric

And Dr Greger, who I have a lot of time for, has several videos re turmeric. His health videos address all the recent studies in so many things. The links underneath will take you to the complete series re this. It may not help your migraine, but it may help other issues. I haven't looked yet re migraine, but it is a definite anti-inflammatory, and NSAIDS are common drugs used in migraine sufferers. Anyway, see what you think, and you may find more information than I have.

http://nutritionfacts.org/video/who-shouldnt-consume-curcumin-or-turmeric/

I will go back to

face

more reading on that link. It's valuable general knowledge and from lived experience.

And here is a page from Greger re migraine and related subjects. Definitely worth watching in case there is anything you have missed.

11677. Ayla8726 November 2015, 10:58 GMT +01:00

Thank you for your links. I use some NSAIDS (Naproxen) during attacks to enhance the effect of my triptanes.

To look ahead to some relaxation from the daily

race

to work I can tell you that from next tuesday I will have two weeks off. I don't think you will see me much in that time. Christa and I will do some little bit of shopping, I have to visit a doctor for a yearly routine consultation, and of course I will have to regularly consult Mimi to keep her happy.

11678. xymonau26 November 2015, 11:46 GMT +01:00

Good for you. I hope it's a relaxing and fun time for you, Michael.

Mimi will get a bit more

care

and attention with you at home more

11679. Ayla8727 November 2015, 6:34 GMT +01:00

I'm sure it will be relaxing. It would be even more so, if I'm lucky and have no migraine attacks. They often come when I'm off work as a compensation for the reduced stress level.

Mimi will love the extra attention, she doesn't like to be left alone. It makes her grumpy.

I will also enjoy to have the time to

read

some good books. I also have to catch up with some articles in newspapers of the last weeks which are still waiting for me.

11680. xymonau27 November 2015, 11:13 GMT +01:00

That should be great, and I really hope the migraines stay away, Michael.

I shall sing an

Are you going to enter the Christmas competition, Michael? What about Christa? She does such lovely borders.

I have no christmas photos at hand, and Christa has no new borders ready. Maybe next year?

It's always so sudden that christmas is
